Indecent Exposure

By admin on Jun 9, 2009 | In Turning Point | Send feedback »

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me.
Job 29:14
None of us wants to be indecently exposed; we make sure we’re dressed when we leave home. But what about your spiritual clothing? The Bible uses the command “put on” in telling us how to prepare for every day. Job said that every day he put on the garment of righteousness and it clothed him. Isaiah tells us to put on strength and the breastplate of righteousness (Isaiah 51:9; 59:17). Peter said that rather than putting on costly apparel, we should wear the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:4). Paul wrote, “Put on the armor of light… put on the new man… put on tender mercies, kindness, and humility… put on love… put on the breastplate of faith… put on the whole armor of God.”
It’s summed up in Romans 13:14: “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
The process of preparing our minds and hearts for each day is as important as putting on our clothes in the morning. Never let your soul be indecently exposed.
The best earrings that a woman can wear are the earrings of hearing the Word with attention.

Boy, oh Boa!

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled (which the dictionary defines as: to influence by trickery, flattery, or to mislead or delude) Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted away from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2 Corinthians 11:3 (KJV)
Jimmy’s sermon last night reminded me of a true story I read about in the news some time ago involving a seven-year-old boy watching cartoons with his buddy one Saturday morning. Suddenly they felt something move on the sofa behind them. When they adjusted the cushions, a huge snake slithers across the fabric and fell into a ball at their feet. This story was reported as true by channel 12 news recently in Brooklyn. The boys screamed for help, and soon the police had evacuated their 62nd Street apartment. But even the police were spooked by the snake, and it was the Animal Care and Control Center that finally removed the eight foot long boa constrictor from the room. The snake had apparently crawled into the apartment through the plumbing.
It’s a lesson to us all. The “old serpent” is closer than we think. He creeps into our homes, slithers through our offices, and tries to deceive us just as he deceived Eve. Our greatest defense is our “sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” The devil can’t do much with a person who is sincerely and purely devoted to the Lord Jesus. He has no answer to a committed disciple and no strategy against the blood of the risen Savior.
Satan has three titles given in the Scriptures… a dragon, to note his malice; a serpent, to note his subtlety, and a lion to note his strength.

In Guantanamo Bay

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.
Psalm 19:7

In 1941, a Marine named Edward LeBeau, who was stationed at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, saw something floating in the water and fished it out with a palm branch. It was a copy of the Gospel of John. He dried it under his cot, and then started reading it. Later while training in Puerto Rico, he purchased a copy of the entire Bible at a drug store. It became his constant off-hour companion, and after two months of reading the Bible, LeBeau found himself on his knees on the dusty floor of his tent, and there he found the Christ who changed his life.
Pastor Ison preached Sunday that the Bible is breathed out by God, every word is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, true, and more to be desired than gold. It converts the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes, endures forever, and gives great reward.
Our job is to fish it off the bookshelf or out of the bedside drawer—your copy probably doesn't need to be dried out under your cot—and let it be our constant companion.
Never…let a single day go by without earnest Bible study.

Spiritual Bracings

My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.

Matthew 7:24-27
A friend I know designs bridges. When designing a bridge, he must take into account three different, but equally important loads: the dead load, which is the weight of the bridge itself; the live load, which is the weight of the daily traffic it must carry; and the wind load, which is the pressure of the storms that beat on the bridge. Then he designs bracings that will bear all three loads.
As Christians, we need bracings for the dead load of self, the live load of daily living, and the wind load of emergencies and trials. The only bracings strong enough to withstand all three loads are found in Scripture, and they are available to us at any moment; all we have to do is open the Bible and seek the Lord.
How strong are your bracings? Every time we commit a verse to memory, read the Word of God, or ask for wisdom, we are strengthening our spiritual bracings so that during daily struggles or life-altering trials, instead of aimlessly searching elsewhere for solace and strength, we know exactly where to turn, seek wisdom, and take comfort.
Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.

NTKB

O Lord, come!

Revelation 1:1-3
During the Great Depression, the POTUS (President of the United States)— FDR—created the CCC, the AAA, the NRA, the NYA, the SSA, the TVA, and so many other agencies that Washingtonians felt they were drowning in ABCs. Then came the CIA and the FBI; and now one needs a degree in acronyms to engage in government work. The letters NTKB have special significance. It means that certain sensitive national material is provided on a Need-To-Know Basis.
Well, the LJC (Lord Jesus Christ) has given us information about the future on a NTKB. According to Dr. John Wesley White, there are 1,845 verses in Scripture related to the Second Coming, and all we need to know is there. We don't know the day or hour of His coming, but we can study the times and the seasons. If you have questions related to prophetic themes, keep studying. The more we study it, the better we understand it. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near (Revelation 1:3).
Prophecy shows us how God conducts history—which is no small consolation for our tormented age.
